Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of semantics and pragmatics of the speech verbs in the English language. In this the article the factors and conditions that determine the process of functional categorization of the linguistic picture of the world, as well as to determine the specifics of the functional categorization of three groups of verbs, respectively, with the prototypes tell, say and speak is  identified.
