LINGUOCULTUROLOGICAL ASPECTS OF ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGY: UNDERSTANDING THE INTERSECTION OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
Abstract
This article examines the linguoculturological aspects of English phraseology, specifically focusing on the cultural and social factors that influence the use and interpretation of English idioms and expressions. The author argues that understanding the cultural context in which a phrase is used is essential for effective communication in English, as certain idioms may carry different meanings or connotations in different cultures. The article provides examples of common English idioms and their cultural associations, highlighting the importance of considering the cultural background of both the speaker and listener in interpreting these expressions. Additionally, the article discusses the role of English phraseology in shaping cultural identity and values, emphasizing the need for intercultural competence in language learning.
